Meet the Valley Doulas Supporting Annapolis Valley Families

newborn baby and valley doulas

Being in the Annapolis Valley, we don’t have as many resources for new or expecting mothers as Halifax does. What we do have are the amazing ladies who run Valley Doulas. Dawn and Laura are both moms, doulas and educators. They have worked within the community for over 10 years and they feel privileged to have been a part of so many family’s journeys along the way. They met at a local baby group and they immediately bonded over their passion for the rights of women during the birth process. They trained to become doulas through DONA in 2011 and haven’t looked back since. The team at Valley Doulas offers prenatal education classes (FREE!), birth doula services and postpartum doula services.

Laura was raised in the Annapolis Valley and has experience with plants, ecosystem management and ran a small community-supported agriculture farm. She is also co-leader of her local La Leche League group and has four children of her own. Laura hopes that working with women and families, she can help them to follow their own instincts and intuition.

Dawn is a mom of two, an advocate for midwifery care and a CAPPA certified Childbirth Educator. She believes that “birth matters” and that knowledge is power. Dawn also has a background in nutrition and health promotion and has a role in the Annapolis Valley Farm to School Snack program.

In 2022, they welcomed Carrie Clem to their team. Carrie has been in the field of women’s health since 2005. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Midwifery and has completed her International Board Certified Lactation Consultant certification in 2016.  Carrie opened the Berwick La Leche League and also provides support to other local families through her volunteer work there.
