LET’S START BY TELLING EVERYONE ABOUT WHO YOU ARE, YOUR BUSINESS AND WHY YOU STARTED FEM ENTITY.

Irene: “My name is Irene Saliendra, I graduated from Dalhousie University with a bachelors in Management and a Major in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, I’ve always had a passion for self-development and giving opportunities for people to grow and find new passions – for me, this really started at the beginning of 2020 when I had a severe allergic reaction which led me housebound, from that I turned to books to pass the time. I gravitated towards a lot of books revolving around honouring your feminine power while in a masculine society, and a lot of it resonated with me. I wanted to share what I learned with the other strong women around me as I know when women come together we can be unstoppable!”

Mukisa: “I’m Mukisa Kakembo, I graduated from Dalhousie in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. During that time I became very passionate about mental health and started doing presentations teaching others how to support their peers with mental health challenges. I started a self-care Instagram in 2019 as a hobby but then I saw more of a need for self-care content than ever before. I met Irene through Dalhousie working on events and public speaking so when the opportunity came up to partner on a business endeavour, I took it! We make a great team because where I have tons of ideas, she puts them into action. From that, Fem.Entity was born!

WHAT SERVICES DO YOU OFFER AND WHERE?

Our website is currently under construction, but the goal is for Fem Entity to be the source to help people redefine what balance looks like. Understanding and honouring our feminine and masculine energies is a huge part of that.  The Fem Entity Community will be found in the Directory section of our Website and consists of partnerships we’ve made to encourage members along their journey. We have guides to help you empower your divine energy and excel as a person or business. We will be offering workshops and events, as well as hosting a podcast where people can tune in bi-weekly. At Fem Entity we believe that the people you surround yourself with during your journey of self-discovery makes a great impact – so we will have The Fem Entity Community available for everyone.

WHAT TRAINING HAVE YOU DONE?

Mukisa: “My background is in psychology and I’ve completed my Mental Health First Aid Training. Our knowledge about the divine masculine and feminine energy has come from a lot of self-study, reading books, listening to podcasts and watching youtube videos. We both have experience in event organizing, public speaking, and advocacy for women’s empowerment, so we’re taking this experience and applying it to the field of self-care, and more specifically, honouring your divine energy.”

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FEMININE AND MASCULINE ENERGY? WHY DO THEY MATTER?

Everyone has feminine and masculine energy within us; another example is yin and yang, or sun and moon, we are meant to have these aspects of ourselves balanced. Through the patriarchal views of society, we naturally become unbalanced because we’re told to only use masculine energy in order to excel. Both energies rely on each other in order to find that inner peace, you can’t just be creative without structure, or acting without passion. Masculine energy is your ambitious and actionable self-moving, while your feminine energy is your caring and courageous self. Understanding how to balance your masculine and feminine energies in a way that works for you is a continuous process that can lead to you gaining a higher understanding and awareness for yourself.

WHAT IS IT LIKE WORKING WITH YOU? WHAT IS THE PROCESS? WHAT WOULD YOU SAY ARE YOUR CORE VALUES?

Our core values include self-love, respect, relationships and empowerment. We’ve worked together on numerous events and projects throughout our university career, so we both have a foundational understanding of each other’s work expectations and boundaries. We take each individual case by case, evaluate their needs and goals when approaching us and either direct them to our resources or to our business partners and consultants who could help.

LET’S CHAT A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE MOON CYCLES AND HOW DOES IT AFFECT US?

The lunar cycle starts with the new moon, symbolizing new beginnings. it’s a time for grounding, setting new intentions, and planting the seeds for those new goals. The full moon symbolizes harvest, self-realization and celebrating your growth. The full moon is for taking what serves you and letting go of anything else. The moon is associated with femininity and wellbeing, and happiness. Women’s menstrual cycles are associated with the moon because they are both approximately 28 days long. Women can learn how to care for themselves on a deeper level by learning how their cycle corresponds with the moon’s cycle! We have a post coming out about that soon!

YOUR NUMBER ONE TIP FOR SELF-CARE?

ESPECIALLY FOR PARENTS WHO ARE CONSTANTLY LOOKING AFTER SOMEONE ELSE.

Irene: “I say my number one tip for self-care for a parent who is constantly looking after someone else, is to be kind to yourself too. Show yourself the same kindness and love that you give to the people around you. A day is a day, it’s all about how you look at it that makes the difference”

Mukisa: “My number one tip is to listen to your body! So often we push ourselves to do more, even when we are tired, hungry or in pain. Our body knows what we need, but we have to allow ourselves the time and space to rest and rejuvenate. That way, when we pour into others, we are not depleting our own energy.”
